I will have to agree with with the poster below about Steve spangler, because my sons, who never liked much of anything about school, reading, or doing anything but baseball and computer games, have become Mad Scientists incarnate since we signed up for that experiment every week in my inbox. they’re roamed through my pantry for ingredients and used all the juice cups for mixing and soaking little beads, etc, you told me to order. We never heard of this man until your presentation, and you have my very heartfelt gratitude for putting us on to him. I’d seen him on Ellen a time or two and enjoyed the fun, but didn’t realize he had an entire curriculum behind me, and such awesome products and advice. One of the boys is doing the iron in the cereal thing for science fair, one is doing the snow thing, comparing it to commercial fake snow for skiing, etc, and the youngest boy is doing a project about rainbow colors and color combinng. Easter egg coloring is also going to be extra fun this year. I agree with you, Steve Spangler is cool. Thanks again for telling us all about him and his stuff. If I had a website I’d pass it along, too.

I hope Spangler has you working for him full time by now, Jane, with an office of your own and a pat on the back every time he walks past you, because everyone I know has heard of him because of you. My kids are absolutely insanely crazy about those big pearly balls (oh, you people!) and the polymer instant worms. You told me to tell my staff about the leprechaun kit and several of them ordered it, and our PTA is looking into buying his products for each elementary teacher in the building when our funds come in. All thanks to you. I was never very happy having to teach science when our specialist was laid off, but now it’s the favorite part of my day, and I know many of the other teachers in our wing would agree. Sometimes we combine classes and forces and do a big experiment outdoors, when the weather cooperates.

Didn’t mean to shanhai your blog, but you have got us all so excited about Steve Spangler Science, I just have to say so every chance I get! Keep on with that advice, Mamacita. You rock.

Mamacita – Thanks for sharing the St. Patrick’s Day science stuff on your blog (I know that you tried to trick your husband with the green water stunt!)

I wanted to share a story from today… This morning the leprechauns were up to their normal antics – green toilet water, green water coming out of the faucets, green milk – but this time they went too far. The boys love to help Mom crack the eggs to make breakfast. I wish you could have seen their faces when the inside of the eggs were green! (shhhh! It only took about an hour to carefully inject each egg with green dye using a syringe. I injected a dozen eggs with green dye so it didn’t matter which one they picked… it was green when they cracked it). The look on their faces were priceless. Today we made a memory…

I read on the teacher forum where you warned us about the fake snow but it was cheaper so I ordered some and it was a total waste of money, it wasn’t snow at all, just slimey slush, so disappointing. Next time I ordered the spangler snow and it was PERFECT, so thanks for the advice which i took after the fact but I learned my lesson.

My fifth graders were nuts today with the pinching. almost worse than halloween.

You were talking about Steve Spangler on my wife’s blog and we took your advice and signed up for that Experiment of the week and jsut wanted to say, the kids look forward to that email like nobody would believe. They love the Insta-snow and those color changing beads, and those little dots that turn into big water bubbles. My wife took the Spangler blog advice and made safety bracelets for the kids with those beads, so they know when it’s time to put on more sunscreen, it works great and makes us feel better about their skin safety. We’re all pale and tend to burn fast and bad.

I forgot about St. Patrick Day. Nobody pinched me, so that’s good.

The only green clothing I own is a heavy winter sweater. I’m wearing it, of course, because there’s nobody at my workplace I care to be pinched by.

Maybe if I sweat enough in it, they’ll leave me alone?

My favorite shade of green is cash green.

You mentioned Spangler a year or so ago on your blog and I clicked then and fell in love. He reminds me of somebody but I can’t quite place who it is. My boys hate school but they love the Spangler science stuff. The guy really knows how to appeal to kids.

Anyway, thanks again for the spangler tip. The guy should be paying you commission.

Yeah, you got me! The only green clothes I own are about 40 pounds away from fitting–hopefully next year!
