When I first met my husband, I came to the conclusion that he had never opened a box of cereal, given the way it was nearly always totally wrecked. It's now been 28 yrs. since we met, so I may have to change that belief.

I'm the only woman of the two-legged variety living in my house. (The other two don't do laundry.) After Christmas, I bought one of those laundry "sorters" where there are three open cloth bins. I wrote "light" and "dark" above two of the bins. I explained that the laundry goes INTO the bins, sorted appropriately. How it would no longer be acceptable to just toss items on the floor and expect that they'd be washed. *SIGH* Mom is such a pushover!

7. Why do some men pile their dirty clothes BESIDE the hamper, balance the new roll of toilet paper on top of the spindle, and tear open a box of cereal as though it were some kind of fight to the death?

Because their mothers let them, when they were still living at home.

9. Why didn’t people pay attention in English class? Don’t they understand that bad grammar and poor spelling make them appear to be, euphemistically speaking, too stupid to piss in a boot? (Gotta love those descriptive southern Indiana sayin’s.)

Elon James White, This Week in Blackness

Black Truth #2: "Saying that someone 'talks white' is possibly one of the most idiotic things that you could ever utter. If you are still saying that now, guess what? You are an idiot."

So maybe the whiggers will get the message. Eventually.

TOTALLY agree with #'s 3, 6, 9 and 10!! I am constantly marking the words things, stuff, get/got, etc. in essays that my students write. Drives me crazy!

As far as #9 goes, I have an answer: apathy. Students today do not believe that being able to speak and write well have anything to do with their lives, or their futures for that matter. I can often be heard saying, "Come back in 5-10 years and we'll chat about whether or not being well spoken and well written is important."

I can't wait to chat with students someday when they are part of the 'real world!'

"Why do so many public schools brag about graduating students who scored high on a standardized test? Why don’t they brag about graduating students who now have the necessary skills to live in the world and make it and themselves better? Wait, I actually know the answer to this one: Money, and because they aren’t."

Bingo.
