Honestly, when you talk to this girl, there is no "there" there! I should have just told her she lost her chance for the test, but I gave her a different one today. ALL essay questions! I am going to watch closely in the future for "sneaky", but I think she really is that stupid.

I'm not sure about the Spider Robinson attribute on #35. I thought I remembered that Napoleon Bonaparte said this. My quickie search on google attributes it to both Robert Hanlon (of the Murphy's Laws books) and Spider Robinson.

I was incorrect about the Napoleon quote, though I'll bet that whoever wrote the one you quoted derived theirs from his:
"Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence. ~Napoleon Bonaparte

PS @ Rho: I'm not sure this is a stupid student. Perhaps sneaky, but definitely not stupid.

Friday: returned tests that students had taken the day before so that we could review and they could make corrections as we discussed. At beginning of period, I sent two students who had been absent to other teacher's room to take the test. Another student who had been absent sat there, not saying a word, as we reviewed the test. I should have caught it, but didn't. But it took all I had in me not to shout at her "How stupid are you to not put your hand up and remind me that you didn't take the test yet?!! Well, she will take it Monday, but it is going to be a different test; 9th graders- love them, but sometimes I wonder if there is an active cell in their brains.
