I thought I remembered that Napoleon Bonaparte said this. My quickie search on google attributes it to both Robert Hanlon (of the <i>Murphy's Laws</i> books) and Spider Robinson. At beginning of period, I sent two students who had been absent to other teacher's room to take the test. Another student who had been absent sat there, not saying a word, as we reviewed the test. I should have caught it, but didn't. But it took all I had in me not to shout at her "How stupid are you to not put your hand up and remind me that you didn't take the test yet?!! Well, she will take it Monday, but it is going to be a different test; 9th graders- love them, but sometimes I wonder if there is an active cell in their brains.
