When our first experiment arrived, the boys were skeptical because they had never really DONE anything with science at school, just read about it. Now that summer is half over and they've done several experiments, they cross the days off the calendar between experiments arriving! Thank you from the bottom of my heart, ALL our hearts, for telling us about Steve Spangler science. Thanks too for this particular Quotation Saturday - I've printed it out and pasted it to each of the boys' notebooks. You should be working for Steve Spangler, the way you lead people to his stuff. He should snatch you up before someone else does.

Every Saturday I print out your quotations and post them on the bulletin board in the staff lounge. This is the best list yet. Thanks!

#46 is my favorite, too.

I've been using Steve Spangler's videos and experiments ever since I first learned about them right here on your blog. For this, I will be forever thankful and grateful to you, Jane. My school has all but eliminated any hands-on stuff and I have to sort of sneak it in, but I'm doing it and it's made a shitload of difference. Thanks to Spangler and thanks to you.

My oldest son LOVES science and so far, has been very lucky to have great science teachers. Both of my boys drop everything when Steve Spangler comes on the afternoon news, and would rather watch a Bill Nye video than anything else. Good teachers are hard to find, but are a blessing when found!

Your philosophies of education are so anti-standardization that it's no wonder some people can't comprehend. Your ability to make your concern and love and absolute expertise at this "connection" and "coordination" thing you so often speak of make me wish that I'd had you as a teacher during those awful middle years and that my sons had you right now. My kids' school emphasizes test scores above all else, and it's squelched the love of learning right out of them. For this, I will never forgive the Michigan public school systems. We signed up for Spangler's Experiment of the Week and are counting the days till the first one comes in. My boys used to lvoe science until the school system dulled it out of them.

anyway, thank you, Jane/Mamacita. You are the best at explaining this stuff I've ever encountered.

I agree. My boys hated science until I discovered Spangler Science. Now - and this is the sad part - they can't wait to get home from their scienceless school to experiment with the Spangler stuff. If their school was smart, which it ain't, it would integrate more hands on stuff but all they care about is subjects that are tested. Sad, sad, sad.

Write a book! Please? A big, fat book. Also, do you do demos for schools? People said you were an expert at coordinating Lit books with other subject areas. I'm sending you an email.

I have to say I've been blessed enough to have had several really awesome science teachers in the past. First in Middle School and then in High School. They were all either completely insane, or really fun people who made it exciting to learn-in fact,I loved Science so much that in one year I took three science courses...:)
