My dad worked for American Airlines for 35 years. He knew how they airplanes flew– he was a mechanic– but still, every time he flew with us, he would move back to the smoking section and chain smoke and drink Jack Daniels until we were safely on Earth.
This did not make me feel good.
But I loved to fly. And luckily, it cost five bucks to get almost anywhere when I was a kid. Five bucks, as long as you were dressed up. So off we would fly, even though we might not have the money to pay for other things. And thank God for that. Really. I’d been to three continents before I was thirteen.

Yeah, the stores are different. But sometimes, when you move to a different place, all you really want is a shake from Steak N’ Shake or a Full Order of Cheese Fries from Momma’s…if you come to NY, you’d better enjoy Italian food…or else you’re pretty much S.O.L.

I lived near Salt Lake (courtesy of the USAF) for five years and went to Idaho sometimes on business. It is truly beautiful country out there. We had a view of the Wasatch front from our backyard.
Have you tried fry sauce yet? Never understood that…and the fact you have to order your diet coke without lemon when you’re there. I hope you’re enjoying your time out there!
