Ten Things Tuesday

Ten Things TuesdayMamacita says:

1.  I’m in Pocatello, Idaho this week.

2.  It’s not raining here!

3.  My brother’s kids are cool.

4.  My brother and sister-in-law are cool.

5.  Having a laptop so I can do my writing wherever I might be is cool.

6.  Our country really is massively large, and the flora, fauna, and stores are different when you travel a long way from home.

7.  Did you think it was odd that I included “stores” in #6?  Did you really?  Well, the stores ARE different when you travel.

8.  Many stores are the same, but who wants to travel two thousand miles to shop at the same stores I could go to at home?  Ditto for restaurants.

9.  The mountains are  beautiful.

10.  Airplanes are equal parts science and magic.  Dispute it if you will.

  1. My dad worked for American Airlines for 35 years. He knew how they airplanes flew– he was a mechanic– but still, every time he flew with us, he would move back to the smoking section and chain smoke and drink Jack Daniels until we were safely on Earth.

This did not make me feel good.

But I loved to fly. And luckily, it cost five bucks to get almost anywhere when I was a kid. Five bucks, as long as you were dressed up. So off we would fly, even though we might not have the money to pay for other things. And thank God for that. Really. I’d been to three continents before I was thirteen.

    Enjoy your trip!

  3. Watch out for mountain lions and bears! I just saw a thing on Animal Planet about attacks. Did you know that grizzlies will totally break and enter? I’d crap myself if I had a bear in my house!

  5. Yeah, the stores are different. But sometimes, when you move to a different place, all you really want is a shake from Steak N’ Shake or a Full Order of Cheese Fries from Momma’s…if you come to NY, you’d better enjoy Italian food…or else you’re pretty much S.O.L.

  7. I lived near Salt Lake (courtesy of the USAF) for five years and went to Idaho sometimes on business. It is truly beautiful country out there. We had a view of the Wasatch front from our backyard.

Have you tried fry sauce yet? Never understood that…and the fact you have to order your diet coke without lemon when you’re there. I hope you’re enjoying your time out there!
