And you are, once again, completely right on the mark. on the MARK- I tell you! I hope you have a wonderful teacher appreciation week! Because you deserve it, Janie!

And what did I get? A plastic water bottle and a reprimand through a third party that I need to use each class period completely for instruction since I was observed supposedly not teaching four minutes before the final bell.

But I'm not bitter.

Science toys are the BEST thing since sliced bread. And I can see how restaurant certificates can be awesome to give as well. If the kid was really interested in giving something nice, they could also ask what your favorite one is...to give you that. :)

You know what I would really like? Just one class, one section of 20 teenagers, who for one year, did not have one person who thought it was okay to swear at, mock, and just plain do everything possible to disrupt as much as possible. One class in which the lame ninth grade boy didn't sit and make duck noises, fart at will, and smirk about it. Just one year in which I was not called the C word by some little bitchy (excuse the word- it fits!) 15 year old brat who is in school only to fight other girls and raise as much hell as possible. One year in which I had one class of kids who realized they need to STUDY and LEARN something!
Do I sound tired? I love the kids who make an effort, but I worry about our nation if these lame brains are our future.
And the middle school tells us that next year's crop is worse- I couldn't even find enough to fill an Honors section out of 100 8th graders! We have been warned of some of them smoking pot and selling it on the school grounds in the MS.
Lord help us!

Thank you for posting this -- I've never seen this advice so clearly and logically explained. I am recommending it to all my friends, as many of them are trying to figure out what to get their children's teachers right now.

These are great ideas, and not very expensive, either. I always give my son's teachers a little something at the end of the year, and it would be nice to know it was something they were able to really appreciate and use! The Spangler Science thing is best of all, and absolutely FREE!!! Thanks, Mamacita, for the great tips.

Before I forget, my son is crazy about science toys, so the Spangler thing is doubly helpful.
