Ten Things Tuesday

Ten Things TuesdayMamacita says:

1.  You’re never too old for a popsicle.

2.  8-gig SD cards for nine dollars?   I’ll take two, please.  Thank you, Amazon.

3.  Stinky ladybug beetles are starting to drop down on my furniture.  Where did they live all winter?  Wait, don’t tell me.  I bet I don’t want to know.

4.  Educating Rita, starring a young Mrs. Molly Weasley the fabulous Julie Walters, is one of my favorite movies.

5.  Speaking of popsicles, I wish I could buy a box of grape, and not have to bother with cherry and orange.  Orange popsicles aren’t all that bad, but the cherry popsicles taste like medicine, and that’s a fact.

6.  Speaking of Julie Walters, I loved her in Calendar Girls, too.

7.  I’ve been a fan of Jim Dale ever since Pete’s Dragon, and he always made the Tony Awards shine brighter, too.  Now I’m listening to his ABSOLUTELY AWESOME voice as he reads all of the Harry Potter audiobooks aloud to me as I drive back and forth to the main campus, and I’ve fallen in lust love with him all over again.  That voice.  That. . . voice. . . . . I know he’s old now.  I don’t care.

8.  Speaking of Harry Potter, I really don’t think it’s fair that they’re fiction, and that I’m far too old to be a Hogwarts student.  I guess sitting with Minerva McGonagall would be better than nothing, and probably a lot of fun; I bet she’d be a hoot to hang out with, actually.  I could live in the castle quite happily.  When I’m under the spell of Jim Dale’s voice, I have to remind myself:  FICTION!!!!!!!  And it’s such a letdown.  Sigh.  Oh, I know, I know.  I’m unreasonably immature.

9.  I do tend to insert myself into books and movies that I love.  Not as the author or screenwriter’s character, though: as myself.    See #8 above.

10.  Who ate all my popsicles?  Oh wait, that was me.

  1. Ah, sometimes I let myself live in HP world…but only, there, my name is Mortania and I’m a Slytherin-and my biggest secret is that I absolutely think Minerva McGonagall would be the funniest teacher ever. Just look at how she reacted to Jane Umbridge…who, by the way, doesn’t deserve to be named Jane. :)

  2. The person who mentioned the Outlander books? Thank you! I love that series. I’ve had a book crush on Jamie Fraser for like, 7 years.

  3. I feel the same way when it comes to popsicles. I’d rather buy a whole box of grape ones. Unfortunately, you have to take the good with the bad.

  4. Oh, I often fantasize about being able to live in HP’s world. Especially when I am stuck with the dreaded task of correcting papers. How great would it be to just wave my wand over them and have the scores magically appear in the database…

  5. I feel the same way about cherry popsicles. Those suckers are the devil.

I also do the same thing with books I love =) I’m pretty sure that’s half the fun of reading!

  6. I make popsicles out of orange juice or Koolaid; just fill an ice cube tray and stick a stick in each one. P.S. I think your blog is the best on the net, too. I wish you’d write a book so all your wisdom and humor could live on my bookcase as well as in my computer, too. I would BUY your book, Mamacita.

  7. I take Welch’s grape juice and make my own popsicles and then I don’t have to deal with orange, red or, heaven forbid, green. Plus, if you have a sick kid, it’s a great way to sneak medicine into them.

  8. I met Jane at BlogHer last year and haven’t stopped giggling yet. She was absolutely hilarious, and so interesting and nice. Can’t wait to see her again this July.

  9. My opinion of Mamacita Jane? Positive, and nothing but positive. She’s uniquely wonderful, and the best teacher EVER. Her advice is great, and her sense of humor is unbelievably witty and hilarious. I love her blog and read it daily, even before I read the newspaper. Best blog EVER.

  10. Is this the day we tell the world our opinion of Mamacita? Put me down as a huge fan! Not just that, I’m in awe of how sensible and knowledgable you are, Jane. You are a kind person, and the world’s finest teacher, and not just in school, either.

  11. Ditto what Mike said, Mamacita. You’re one of the internet’s wisest women, and your influence is mighty and widespread.

  12. BIG Jim Dale fan here! Even if I wasn’t already, though, I’d check out anything you recommended. Mamacita, I wonder if you realize the immensity of your influence on us all.

  13. My girls are re-reading the HP series, and I’m thinking that I’ll pick them up again when I’m finished with the Outlander books (which I’m enjoying a little too much, I think…).

I don’t think I’d like living in a castle (they’re notoriously drafty and cold) but I’d LOVE Minerva as a colleague. She’s got some spunk, that one!

  14. I haven’t heard the Jim Dale versions so I can’t compare or comment there, but the UK version is the voice of Stephen Fry and he is fantabulous* at reading them. I borrowed all of them from my local library at once and listened to them pretty much non-stop. I got a lot of stitching done too =)

*I know it’s not a ‘real’ word, but it suits.

  15. I’ll give you all the orange AND purple if I can get all the lime… we can melt all the cherry ones on the roof of the car of that jerk who drives too fast down our road and never stops at the stop signs.
