Ten Things Tuesday

Mamacita says:

1.  Winter storm warning.  6 inches of snow expected.

2.  It’s snowing.

3.  14 degrees outside.

4.  Sugar-free popsicles are pretty good.

5.  When the ground is frozen solid, does the mortuary just store the bodies in the back room until there’s a thaw?  How does that work? Wouldn’t digging with a jackhammer vibrate the other caskets?  I think of such things because my aunt died.

6.  Broadway’s “Beauty and the Beast” has a really good soundtrack.

7.  I adored Freddie Mercury with unswerving devotion, but how in the world could he sing like that with those teeth?  I suppose he was used to it; I read that he didn’t get them fixed because he was afraid his voice would be different.  Voice?  He had the voice of a heartbroken angel.  I still get shivers listening to him.

8.  Michael Ball is still gorgeous.  Such dimples.

9.  Why are there no desperately romantic stories about a handsome man and a hideous girl?

10.  I’m cold.

  1. The cynic in me says that that handsome men marry hideous women all the time. Of course, they might just be hideous because I’m not in love with them.

  3. #9 “Jane Eyre?” I guess he’s not supposed to be handsome, but he is in the PBS Masterpiece version. She’s not hideous in that version, either. But I think it’s as close as you can get.

  5. In answer to #5– yes, they do store them. My friend’s mom died when there was two feet of snow on the ground, which in eastern Oklahoma is absolutely a blizzard, and she couldn’t be buried until ten days later.

And the storm kind of grazed us, but it is definitely is heading your way, Janie. We just got ice. I coulda stayed in Oklahoma for that.

Stay warm! Maybe avoiding the popsicles would help with that!

  7. Boxer Michael Spinks made 10’s of millions- and could not be bothered to get a couple of crowns before he went flat broke bust.

    At least Freddie HAD teeth.

  9. Today was a teacher workday. Snow already falling at 6 a.m. But no buses on the roads, so the superintendent, in his infinite wisdom, decided that teachers should come in anyway. And for what? Some drivel I don’t remember, ’cause they decided to send us home at 10 a.m. And we’re doing the Snow Dance in my house tonite. Ice is on the way!

  11. #5 – My grandmother died (years ago) in winter in North Dakota. I understand that they have above-ground crypts that are used only to temporarily house the caskets for winter funerals until the actual grave can be dug.

#6 – I have seen Beauty and the Beast on stage three times. (Yes, I am obsessive. I would see Phanthom of the Opera again too should the opportunity arise.) I love that soundtrack.

  13. You’re lucky. It was -9 degrees this morning where I live.
    Brrr…….

And there’s snow expected, but I like snow, so that’s OK.
