Berries and pizza.

Guess what we did again, this afternoon?

Last time, we ate them like candy, made a couple of pies, experimented with dumplings, and froze the rest.

This time, I’m going to make some preserves.

I like the ones with the red tinges best.

We stopped at Grecco’s for pizza on the way home. We had the whole place to ourselves, which is a very good thing considering we both had horrible hat-hair and we smelled like Deet, sunscreen, and sweat.

The berries are sitting in the kitchen now, awaiting their various fates. After sitting in the bed of the truck for an hour, in this intense and humid Indiana heat, they taste almost ‘cooked.’ That’s probably because after sitting in the bed of the truck for an hour in this intense and humid Indiana heat, they ARE almost ‘cooked.’

In a few minutes, I’ll go downstairs and bring up the jam jars, run them through the dishwasher, and get busy jammin’.

If you live around here and like blackberries, get on out to Appleacres and start picking. They still had rows and rows of untouched berries, and from the looks of the bushes they’ll have berries for about two more weeks.

They’ve got peaches now, too.

I do love me a diverse local orchard.

Oh, and we fully intend to eat most of our berries like candy. A bowl at a time.
